How an engagement actually runs.

Six steps, in this order, every time. Nothing here is a mystery and nothing gets invented on the call. You should know what you are buying before you buy it.

Typical total: 3 to 6 weeks from first call to the thirty day check.

The shape of a 90 minute session

Every session I run follows this arc. The close is the part facilitators cut when they run long, which is why the number at the end never moves.

Break at 45 minutes Opening 7 min Everyone speaks Core work 50 min Teach, show, argue with it Practice 22 min Breakouts that report back Close 11 min Decisions, owners, dates Cameras optional throughout. Captions on by default.

The sequence

Each step ends in something you can look at.

  1. Step 1. Twenty minute consult. You describe the room and what keeps going wrong in it. I tell you whether this is a training problem or a management problem. About half the time it is the second one, and I say so. No cost, no deck.
  2. Step 2. Name the behavior. We write one sentence: what is different on Monday. Nothing gets designed until that sentence exists, because it is the only thing the session can be measured against. Takes one exchange.
  3. Step 3. Design the session. I build the plan on one page: opening, participation design, core work, close, and the number we check later. You see it before anything is delivered. 3 to 10 business days.
  4. Step 4. Run it live. Sessions run 60 to 90 minutes with a break at 45. Everyone contributes in the first three minutes. The close names decisions, owners and dates on screen before anybody leaves. Cameras optional, always.
  5. Step 5. Hand it over. You get the plan, the slides, the prompts and the facilitator notes, in your files, with permission to run it without me. The point is that you do not need me twice for the same session. Delivered within 5 days.
  6. Step 6. The thirty day check. We look at the number from step 2. If it moved, we say why. If it did not, we say that too and change the thing that failed. One 30 minute call.

What do you need from me?

A person who can say what good looks like, access to the group for the length of the session, and someone on your side who owns the behavior after I leave. That is the whole list.

You do not need an LMS, a platform decision, or a content library.

What if the answer in step 1 is that you cannot help?

Then I say it on the call and you have lost twenty minutes. A session cannot fix an unclear reporting line, a pay problem or a manager nobody will confront. Training those away wastes your money and my reputation.

Can you work with an internal team that already has material?

Yes, and that is usually cheaper. Most organizations have decks that are close. What they lack is the participation design and the close, which is what turns a read-aloud into a session.
