I started teaching online in 2017 and never stopped. In between, I went to law school, earned a master's in human resource management, spent 12+ years running HR inside organizations, and built a consulting practice serving urban professionals and urban organizations.
I have also been doing stand-up since 2010, which is where I learned to read a room in seconds and adjust before losing it. That is not a side note. It is half of what I teach.
I am from East Oakland, ZIP 94603, where roughly 3 in 1,000 adults hold a professional degree (ACS 2020 to 2024, table B15003). Nobody handed me the rules. I learned them by getting them wrong in public, then wrote them down so the next person would not have to.
