Cohort forming. Dates go to the list first.

When you are done: You will be able to name the exact minute your sessions go flat, and rebuild that block instead of rewriting the whole thing.

What you get

  • Live practice on real failure scenarios, in front of the group.
  • A written plan for the three failures most likely in your own room.

What we cover

Session 1: the room that will not talk

Diagnosing whether silence is safety, clarity or fatigue, and three moves for each.

Session 1: the person who takes over

Structure-first responses that move a dominant voice without a public correction.

Session 2: disclosures and conduct

What to do in the ninety seconds after somebody says something that cannot be unsaid, and what you owe afterward.

Session 2: when the tech fails

A twenty second plan so the room stays with you while you fix it, and the version you run if it cannot be fixed.

Who this is for

Anybody who has lost a room once and does not intend to lose the next one.

If you are not sure this is the right one, book a consult and describe the room. I would rather move you to a different program than sell you this one.

What you leave with

A written assessment of your facilitation against six criteria, scored by me on a 0 to 3 scale. To pass you need a 2 or better on every criterion and a 3 on at least half. It is not a certificate, and it is not automatic. It is a page that says what you can do and what you still cannot, which is the only version of this that is worth anything to you.

What happens in each session

Every session runs ninety minutes live, with every person practicing. The list below is the actual running order, published before you book rather than described on a consult.

Session 1

Silence and the person who will not stop

The two failures that look opposite and share a cause. Reading why a room has gone quiet, the four interventions in order of cost, and redirecting a dominant participant without making an enemy of them.

You leave able to:

  • Diagnose why a room went quiet
  • Intervene at the lowest cost that works
  • Redirect a dominant participant

Session 2

Conflict, derailment and the senior person in the room

What to do when two participants disagree about something that is not the topic, when the executive derails their own training, and when somebody says something in the room that you cannot let stand.

You leave able to:

  • Separate topic conflict from position conflict
  • Handle a sponsor who derails the session
  • Respond to a comment that cannot be left alone

One session, designed

A one page session design for Where Sessions Break, session one of two. Six blocks across ninety minutes covering diagnosis of a stalled session, a live autopsy of one volunteer's material, and a repair practiced against each person's own session.
