Teaching students and facilitating adults look similar and are not. Adults arrive with status, history and a lower tolerance for being managed.
What changes when the students are adults?
Authority stops being assumed and starts being earned in the first ten minutes. Adults also carry the expectation that their experience counts, which is a resource if you design for it and a problem if you ignore it.
Build in a place where their experience is the content, early, not as a closing share-out.
Does online teaching experience transfer to corporate training?
Most of it does. Pacing, checking for understanding and designing participation all carry over directly. What does not carry over is the assumption of attendance: nobody is required to stay, and the session competes with a full inbox.
That is why openings matter more here than in a classroom.
Is there work in this for teachers?
Yes, and it is underpriced by most teachers who move into it. Corporate live facilitation runs $1,500 to $3,500 a day in 2026 (Ruzuku, 2026), which is a different market than education pay scales.
